Important:
USCIS recommends filing Form I-539 at least 45 days before your current status expires or as soon as you determine the need to change or extend status. Preparing documents may take several weeks, so please begin early.

This service is limited to checking whether your documents are complete and properly prepared for mailing to USCIS. POLY does not submit your application to USCIS and does not provide legal advice.

Before completing this form, you must complete the Application for Admission and Required Docs for Admission.

The I-901 SEVIS Fee ($350) is separate from the USCIS Form I-539 filing fee and must be paid directly to SEVP before submitting the COS application to USCIS. Including a copy of the payment receipt with the Form I-539 application packet is strongly recommended. Please upload the receipt if you have already made the payment.

Complete and upload Form I-539. Even if you plan to submit the application online, completing the PDF version first is strongly recommended to help organize and review your information before filing. If you have dependents, you must complete Form I-539A for each dependent. Review the Instructions for Form I-539 for details.

For paper filings only, upload one of the following forms used by USCIS to process the Form I-539 filing fee: Form G-1450 (Authorization for Credit/Debit Card Transactions) or Form G-1650 (Authorization for ACH Transactions from a U.S. bank account). We recommend using Form G-1450, as it is simpler and faster to complete. Please upload a single PDF containing your completed payment authorization form.

Upload a cover letter explaining why you wish to apply for a change of status. In the letter, demonstrate strong ties to your home country to show that you do not intend to immigrate to the U.S. Review sample cover letters as a reference.
